Major Taylor Signature Ride Added

We received the listing for this year’s Major Taylor Cycling Club of Dayton Signature Ride too late for the print edition but added it to the Web edition today. The July 8 event (with free pre- and post-tour rides) is a Supporting Ride of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar.…

Stay up-to-date

It’s still pretty early in the 2015 cycling season but we have already entered several corrections and additions on our online Calendar! So, as we progress into the summer months and you use the printed Calendar to scope out the rides, don’t forget to check for updates. Visit the Touring or Racing sections on this website (see links at the top of this page) and check for additions, changes, and corrections… stay…

Not just for kids!

We must have been looking at their submission with tired eyes! We missed publishing the “adult” riding opportunities available on the August 16 Flatlanders Bike Tour! The family ride, suitable for those with young riders, was listed just fine but we left this out: Combine any or all of the four 25-mile loop routes to ride 25/50/75/100 miles for the day. Or venture out on a 60-mile loop. So, there we are!…

Lost Listing: Major Taylor Signature Ride

Dang! With all the emails and forms flying around here back in January, I lost a listing! So, I must apologize to the Major Taylor Cycling Club of Dayton for omitting their Signature Ride from the print edition of the 2015 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar. I’ve added their event to the Web version of the Calendar and will make an effort to further promote their ride. For now, however, I’ll apologize once again and…

On-press today!

We had the opportunity today to watch printing of the first sheets of the 2015 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar. The 24-page “book” is actually kind of a big deal. Annually we print 20,000 copies (or more) of the glossy piece to be distributed across Ohio and into portions of neighboring states. We try and make the Calendar as visually appealing as we can while maintaining its utilitarian nature — it’s a balance…

At the printers!

The digital publishing package is at the printer’s plant now and, in a couple of days, I’ll be looking at full-color proofs. Once the proofs are approved (usually the same day) the project will be queued for production. We’ve already had excellent response from bicycle shops across the state requesting copies of the Calendar for their customers. Those whose requests have been received by the completion of printing/binding will receive their shipments very…

Cover

Among the very first things to take form during the layout phase of our annual Calendar project is its cover. Completing the cover first sort of sets the stage for the remainder of the book; it also allows us to start teasing the upcoming publication. So, presenting in all its golden goodness… the cover of the 2015 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar.…

Calendar coming soon!

We’re in the layout phase of production now, actually putting the Calendar together in a final form before shipping off to the printers’. We won’t have a publication date until we receive and approve proofs and get into the press queue. The Web version will go live when we go on-press! ‘Til then, the deadlines have all passed and we’re accepting no additional ride listings or ads for the printed version of…

Cover photo wanted!

Although technically past our deadline, we’re still seeking an excellent image for the cover of the 2015 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar. The image should depict cycling in Ohio and show actual riding — no trophy presentations, food lines, etc. — and safe cycling practice. Image orientation should be “portrait,” aka vertical, in order to fit the cover. The photographer or artist (image doesn’t need to be a photograph) will be paid for…
