Problem with our form!

It has been discovered that the Event Questionnaire form sent to event hosts was reproduced without a printed second side! The second side includes space for racing event submissions, descriptions of ride listing parameters, and a signature space for those who wish to be listed as Supporting Rides. Event hosts may visit our Support page to retrieve complete forms for submissions, even using the “fillable” feature which allows completion and printing of…

J&D Bicycles closed; happy retirement!

We received notice from Joyce and Dennis Ferguson that they have closed their J&D Bicycles shop in Troy, Ohio, after 35-plus years in the business. The bike shop property was sold as of September 30. “…our future sees us riding our own bikes much more and spending time with family.” They wrote, “We will now be available for friends and family without retail hours holding us back!” The couple donated much of…

Beginning again

Call us crazy but the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar is created new, from blank pages, every year. So when we say that we’re launching into a new edition of the Calendar, we are, in a real way, beginning again. We expect to put the 2024 Ohio Bicycle Events Questionnaire in the mail during the last week of November. Our deadline for event entries is January 14, 2024. The form is available now…

2024 Already?

We have received our first ride entry for the 2024 edition of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar. This may be the earliest we’ve received a completed listing. For ride directors/promoters, please know that there’s no need to panic! We plan to mail our Event Questionnaire form package in November, as we have these many past years. The mailing goes to events listed this year (2023) in the Calendar for which we have…

Out of Stock

Out of Stock As editor I am pleased to report that we have shipped out the last of our supply of 2023 Ohio Bicycle Event Calendar! We annually endeavor to produce enough copies of the Calendar to satisfy the demand without having substantial surplus to discard to recycling. It doesn’t always work out that way, as conditions and interest change, but this year we seem to be on target. We’re not yet…

Short, or right-sized?

Just a quick note to some of those who have requested bulk shipments of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar: Due to shipping package size constraints, some shipments have been reduced in piece-count. In other words, the boxes or envelopes would hold only so many copies of the booklet so we may have had to short some to make them fit! The good news is that, if you need or want additional copies…

Major Taylor Signature Ride Added

We received the listing for this year’s Major Taylor Cycling Club of Dayton Signature Ride too late for the print edition but added it to the Web edition today. The July 8 event (with free pre- and post-tour rides) is a Supporting Ride of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar.…

Circulation is a good thing

After a small snafu that delayed us by a day, the 2023 edition of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar (OBEC) is printed and begins shipping Monday, March 13. (Our online versions are “live” now.) That means circulation will be underway by the end of next week. Circulation in publishing is like circulation of your body’s blood — a good thing because without it, it’s all over! Our primary means of distribution is…

Proofs approved so off we go!

Just now we approved the printing proof for the 2023 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar; a good rainy day activity. Our project will be added to their work queue and scheduled for production. Delivery? Soon. That’s all we know.…

Put to bed

The 2023 edition of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar — our 40th annual issue — has been “put to bed”. That is, the digital file that will be used for printing the booklets has been uploaded to the art department of the printing company. At the printer’s, a number of steps remain in the prepress process but it’s a much more direct line than it used to be from the editor’s desk…
