We are pleased to announce that the 2024 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar has been printed and is shipping to distributors across Ohio. The cycling scene has made a slow recovery from the COVID disaster of a few years ago and, once again, opportunities abound for fun, adventure, and challenges via bicycle.

Unfortunately discovered too late to correct for print, a duplicated typographical error: A letter was left out of the URL in the multiple events hosted by the good folks at Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails. The correct web address for them is: FMCPT.com — we deeply regret the error and any issues and inconveniences it may cause them and our readers. The error has been corrected in the web edition found on this site, and we have taken the extraordinary action of correcting the error in the PDF edition, also available here.

Since 1986 I have served as editor of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar. As then-chair of the Ohio Bicycle Federation (OBF), I took on the position immediately following the untimely death of David Fortier. The first edition of the Calendar was issued in 1984 via the offices of the Miami Valley Regional Bicycle Council (MVRBC) and consisted of a single printed 8 1/2 X 11 double-sided, sheet listing the year's events. While the MVRBC provided essential assistance in launching the Calendar, it was Fortier who envisioned a glossy publication distributed statewide. The calendar, he also believed, would assist event promoters in avoiding scheduling conflicts, and attracting riders. The Calendar has changed format over the years and is increasingly accessed via the World Wide Web but remains true to its original mission. -- James Guilford
