Circulation is a good thing

After a small snafu that delayed us by a day, the 2023 edition of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar (OBEC) is printed and begins shipping Monday, March 13. (Our online versions are “live” now.) That means circulation will be underway by the end of next week. Circulation in publishing is like circulation of your body’s blood — a good thing because without it, it’s all over! Our primary means of distribution is…

Proofs approved so off we go!

Just now we approved the printing proof for the 2023 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar; a good rainy day activity. Our project will be added to their work queue and scheduled for production. Delivery? Soon. That’s all we know.…

Put to bed

The 2023 edition of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar — our 40th annual issue — has been “put to bed”. That is, the digital file that will be used for printing the booklets has been uploaded to the art department of the printing company. At the printer’s, a number of steps remain in the prepress process but it’s a much more direct line than it used to be from the editor’s desk…

Here we go again!

We’re off to a flying start collecting information for the 2023 edition of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar. This will be the 40th annual issue. To gather the information we need, in November we mail questionnaire forms to the previous year’s ride contacts and to bicycle clubs, in case they’re starting something new. To secure means of circulation, we contact bicycle shops and clubs in January offering free copies of our publication…

A special note: Return to print in 2022

A special note: Return to print in 2022 We don’t have to tell you the last couple of years have been tough. Lost business, few recreational events, and diminished social contact have taken a toll on us all. That said, we are moving ahead with plans for a return to print in 2022, with faith that bicycle event organizers and hosts will have found ways to stage their events with minimal COVID-19…

No Print Version in 2021

It is with regret that I announce we will NOT be creating a printed version of the 2021 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar (OBEC). COVID-19 restrictions and precautions decimated the 2020 cycling event scene. Even with preventative vaccinations imminent, the sheer scope of the task of achieving immunity amongst the majority of the population will require months of continuing restrictions. Through good times and bad, since 1984 the Calendar has been published annually.…

We are on the eve of release of the 2018 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar with the Web and PDF versions going live tomorrow (March 7), and the print version expected to begin shipping the same day! We’re a little later than usual due to unexpected delays at the printers’ but we hope you find the product well worth the wait. Shipping at last!

The first bulk shipments of the 2017 Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar hit the road today, March 10. While production seemed to be going along swimming early on, things seemed to slow down as we approached printing. I don’t know why but that’s just the way things go sometimes! At any rate, bicycle shops and clubs that sent us requests for supplies of the Calendar are at the top of our shipping list;…
